Beyond the hope that a public disclosure alleviates the soul there's always the hope that such hideous behavior can be prevented, that if we couldn't protect ourselves we can protect our offspring. This hope seems just as naive as the hope that war is just a terrible nightmare from our past and that we've grown wise enough to be able to break its scarring circle.
